Keeping Your Home Organized

After we set up our new place, I was surprised to see just how many boxes we had. We had a lot more stuff than we needed, and I had to do something to create a more organized area. I began looking for solutions, and I found a storage facility that was just down the street from us. I talked with them about the sizes they had available, and I booked a unit that I thought would work. After using the storage facility, our new place was cleaner and much more organized. I wanted to start a website all about moving and storage, since you never know what kinds of problems you will face in a new place.

Moving With A Baby... A Baby Grand, That Is? 3 Things To Know

Moving is one of those activities that adults must attend to, but rarely enjoy. When the moving process involves a unique situation, such as getting a baby grand piano safely from Point A to Point B, the chances of an enjoyable moving experience plummets. If the household includes a spouse or child who is a music aficionado, however, there can be no discussion of leaving a favorite piano behind or replacing it with another in the new location. Instead, those who must find a way to successfully move a piano can use these tips to help solve their large and unwieldy problem.

Make a solid plan, well before moving day

The first step in successfully moving a piano, or any item that is heavy, awkward, and somewhat delicate, is to make a good plan and follow it carefully. The plan should start by taking time to clearly understand:

  • how much the item weighs
  • how many people will be needed to provide enough lifting and moving power
  • what type of equipment is needed to move the piano safely, such as piano moving dollies, protective blankets, padding, and non-marring straps

Additionally, it will be necessary to have access to a large vehicle, preferably enclosed, that will be capable of safely transporting the piano from its current location to its future home.

Prep the piano, for safety during the move

Once you have made a good plan, located the proper equipment and enough helpers to safely move the piano, the next step is prepare the piano for the move. This part of the moving process should include taking steps to ensure that the lid and any other sections capable of coming open during the move are locked or securely closed with tape.

Next, carefully pad the piano's legs, and body with soft padding and then cover the entire piano with a moving blanket that is taped or tied securely so that it will remain in place. This will help protect the finish and delicate areas from bumps and scratches during the loading, moving, and unloading process.

Scope out the moving route, to avoid unexpected problems

Unexpected problems can make a difficult piano moving process into a nightmare that ends with a damaged piano and a family member in tears. To avoid this type of issue from occurring make sure that you take the time to completely scope out the moving route before beginning. This means measuring every doorway, finding ways to deal with stairs and tight corners, and checking the traffic route for any jarring bumps or detours that could be problematic during the move.

The work of moving a piano is tiring, dangerous, and filled with unexpected problems. Instead of attempting this type of risky moving process, consider calling on a professional piano moving service in your area to get the job done safely. Companies like Affordable Piano Movers & Storage can help you.
